Powershift Transmission Types

MPS6 PowerShift transmission The ford PowerShift transmission was developed around 2010 and introduced to most of the Ford models. The system uses a dual clutch arrangement which automatically engages the next gear so less power is lost shifting up or down. The first clutch engages odd numbered gears whilst the second clutch handles even gears. The transmission is intended to offer smoother, faster gear shifts than conventional manual or automatic gearboxes. If your ford car was manufactured after 2010, then the likelihood is that it has a PowerShift transmission fitted.

Generation 1 Ford PowerShift transmissions

The first-Generation Ford PowerShift (6DCT450) is a 6-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) with a wet clutch. It was manufactured by Getrag Ford Transmissions, a joint-venture between Getrag gearboxes and Ford Motor company between 2010 and 2014

Generation 2 Ford PowerShift transmissions

The second-Generation Ford PowerShift (6DCT451 and 7DCT300) are 6 and 7 speed wet clutch gearboxes produced by Ford and are fitted on most Ford cars from 2015 onwards.
